I missed it last year, cause I just wasn't paying attention, but November 1st kicks off WriMo 2009!
WriMo, super short for NaNoWriMo, which is short for National Novel Writing Month! Yay. NaNoWriMo
I like this event, and the brain exercise. :) It's challenging to produce a certain amount of words per day in such a short amount of time. It forces procrastinators to pay way more attention to volume and deadlines! (I'm not pointing the Procrastinator finger at anyone else, btw. I excel at it, and was long ago crowned the Queen. I defy anyone, aside from maybe BT, to do better. Or worse. However you wanna look at it. :D)
One of the benefits of the WriMo exercise, IMO, is loosening up your "flow". Sometimes it's easy to get bogged down in details, and editing. Not to say that it's good to ignore those two things during the course of working on your stuff, no. But it is bad to be so attentive to them that you are not producing anything. In other words, editing is great--If you have been editing the same, and only, chapter you have for the last six months or longer? Not so great. Time to loosen up!
WriMo's focus on quantity is great because they encourage you to just write. Write, write, write, no matter what. Edit later. Because hey, if you produce, you will at least actually have something to edit later! Once you really get going, the flow is where lots of the creative juice gets a chance to lubricate that brain of yours... letting the ideas and the fun happen. The more that happens, the more you write, the happier you are, and possibly the better the stuff! Hopefully. :D
The playlist for this year's WriMo sessions includes (but definitely isn't necessarily limited to): Alicia Keys, One Republic, Evanescence, Roxette (I know, right?!?! Surprised the frak outta me too.) Crossfade, JayZ/Linkin Park'' Mashup, 30 Seconds to Mars, Coheed and Cambria, Paramore, Placebo, Massive Attack, Beats Antique, Brian McKnight, Avenged Sevenfold, Gucci Mane, Damien Rice, Kings of Leon, Rich Boy, Chiodos, Staind, Sade, and Bjork.
Yay for music. Speaking of...
So someone sent a tweet about a bit of music that I should check out. I checked it out, and was/am extremely excited about it. So much so I dl-ed the entire album. Unbelievably awesome dance music. Gotta agree with peeps and say I love some deep, dirty, bass. And I'm not gonna say what it is yet, cause I'm hoarding it for myself for the time being, muhahaha...
Here's a GREAT piece Current TV did on the dubstep scene. Lights off, bitches! :D
No seriously though. Lights off. It's a DubStep Thing
Maybe this is why the DemonDogs are always up to no good. :D Heh.
And the current Song That Was Written For Me, appropriate as I head into WriMo, is Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy".

oh, you ARE the Queen--i bow..... but this raises an interesting philosophical question: if you're the best at doing NOthing, does that make you the worst at doing SOMEthing....? help, my head hurts..... ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks...sometimes I need the reminder to just stop analyzing and write already. ;) Happy writing!
ReplyDelete@BT- Not so fast! :D If I'm the Queen, then you are the King. *nods* We are both the best/worst. XD (the worst at *initiating* something)
ReplyDelete@ Beth - I constantly remind myself, too, we all do it! We do need to analyze, at points/some point, but just not every step of the way. It cripples the flow! Happy writing to YOU, girly. :) I will be shipping mine off to you of course. :D
