Hi.
Please stop describing America as "post-racial". Some of you, for reasons only you know, are seemingly now more than ever determined to ignore and deny bigotry and racism. Did you know, that when you talk like electing Obama ended racism in America, it makes you sound very sketchy? It does.
To describe life these days, you can choose from any number of many other words, such as "more diverse"...."more open-minded"..."we've come a long way"...."a lot better"..."more understanding"..."less fearful and hateful"... whatever, however you'd like to describe it, but "post-racial" is too far, friends. Relax, and stop trying to force-feed people this idea. We all work through different issues one day at a time. And as progressive as his becoming president was? Not the magic pill for racism. .
As long as differences exist, hate and bigotry will happen. In huge and obvious ways, small, barely noticeable ways, and everything in between. Nothing in America is "post-racial". And it really makes you sound like a dick when someone is discussing important issues and you whip out the "But we have a Black president now" card. Stop it. You're giving friends major heartburn just trying to talk to you. ...You don't give me heartburn. One, I don't even know what that is, I've never had heartburn in my life, and two, when you're not willing to listen to other people's p.o.v., I just block you.
I would like for these people to get on the bus, in no particular order:
- People who keeping promoting the idea that pointing out racism is "divisive" and pointing out lack of diversity is racist.
- People who promote the idea that racism in America ended when Obama was elected POTUS.
It didn't end. I promise you, it got worse.
This bus is going on a trip to a desert, where you'll have all the sand you could ever possibly want to stick your head in. Enjoy.
On your way there, think about this... "The day after women were given the right to vote, they were obviously now equal. All sexism, harassment and violence against women ceased to exist."
See? Sounds idiotic, doesn't it?
