I really heart Gaeta. I've always liked him, but I like him more so now. Hmm, the men of BSG. Adama is obviously the king, but the others have much to contribute. I like Helo , but not as much as I like Gaeta or Gaius. Favorite male characters of BSG for me would be: Adama, Gaius
Gaeta, and Helo. I do like Galen, though. And Leoben. Hmm, I kinda don't care much about Anders or Lee/Apollo. I mean, they're good characters, but don't rank on my favs.
My fav girls of Battlestar are Sharon, Roslin, Caprica, and sometimes Starbuck, in that order. I wish they'd taken the opportunity in the beginning to give Roslin a less matronly look. I'm not saying that they had to power suit her up every episode, but sometimes I wondered if agesim was coming into play. (of course it was)
I'm unhappy that, for the issues of the season one DVDs, they apparently changed the opening theme. They use the second season theme for the first. I remember the first episodes of BSG, the theme was different, because I remember being completely disappointed with the changes to it for second season.
Almost everything that Caprica Six wears is completely terrible. I'm sorry most of the writers are male and demographic is aimed at males and that Six is written to be object of fantasy, because that poor child has to wear all the stuff from the Fredrick's of Hollywood reject pile. That is when she's not being naked.
Edit:
See my comments below about Mary McDonnell. Here's a picture:

Pic taken at ComicCon, during BSG filming. Hollywood and society are often extremely anal about how they portray/see women over 40. It's changed a little, but not much.
I love Roslin. She's my hero. :)
ReplyDeleteI always assumed Six's wardrobe came from Gaius' imagination and...honestly, he WOULD imagine women in Frederick's stuff. ;)
First of all, Mary McDonnell rocks my socks and always has. I dig that chick, she can go on my fav actress list. I think it sucks that they didn't give her cool stuff to wear. I understand that's she the prez and they want her to have a certain amount of "conservative and dying of cancer" look about her, but just as she wore that red on New Caprica, I think they could have put her in more bright colors from time to time, more fitted jackets and such.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm gonna do a post on ageism. I've noticed it since I was a middle-schooler (I know, weird right?) and I'm pretty sick of it. Some things never change...
About Six: Right. Her costumes came from Gaius' imagination, his fantasy woman. And that entire character design is determined by the creators of the show in which Gaius appears. Who surely were aware of their demographic and the overall lack of sex/Girl-Show/T&A in the whole dramatic war-time setting. They believe they've "gotta get it in there somehow" (I've heard film and show creators use this sentiment many times), but they could have designed some really sexy stuff for Tricia that wasn't so crappy. Oh well. Some things never change.
I edited the post, added a pic!
