Oooh, Beth-head.... XD Wanna add another costume for Dragon*Con to your already gargantuan costume list. (Seriously, I think you and I have competing lists, for length!) And do you even like this one?? Hmm, and which one of us is taller?...And, since I mentioned New Orleans before, I thought I'd get back to the Zulu artwork. A friend, and the St.Louis Zulus http://stlzulu.com/, asked me to do a thing for them awhile back, and when I was in New Orleans (the original birthplace of the club), I got some new ideas that I haven't done anything with in awhile. Recent talk of N.O. gave me a nudge to get it started again! Yay.
In addition to the 2D stuff, I'd had a couple of other ideas I wanted to try. Well, I wandered someplace I'd never been before for some info about materials (and lemme just say, that being in a hunting gallery/taxidermy type place is way worse than going shopping at Lowes/Home Depot, in that people act like they've never seen a girl before, EVER) and hey, asking how I could go about acquiring some cow skins and loads of animal blood, gets me even more funny looks.
Hey! There's nothing nefarious about it!
oh!! I JUST remembered something, and the true cause of your jealousy, Beth— you love Voltaire. :D
ReplyDeleteYe gods that print is GORGEOUS! And I'm taller....but I also am too thick through to middle to pull that costume off. ;) What else did you have in mind? I never mind adding costumes to the list when they're fun! :D
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I want to pet Voltaire. Heeheee...
Ha! I KNOW it. XD I can't share your Voltaire-lust, but if it were in my power, you know I'd deliver him to you with a shiny bow. Twin Danni thinks it is within my power apparently, as she wanted to basically use me to get to him once, to get his autograph/pic because he was blatantly, rudely ignoring her. Her adorable Danni-face was all disappointed and sad, and she was all "He'll do it for you!"... But I refused. He can be an a-hole. I mean, I've personally had nothing but funny and slightly lascivious** encounters with the man, but he picks and chooses who he will pay attention to and treat nicely. I don't even like his music. I probably should give away the one CD I own, it was given to me as a birthday gift so I still have it.
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm just sometimes sucker for his physical style, compelled to look at him...the suits, the hair. You KNOW how I am about WDMs, Well-Dressed Males. It's probably the closest thing anywhere to being my kryptonite. :D And I know you don't judge me, Bethie, cause you love costumed and pretty boys as much as me! XD
**I just want to be clear, I have never been caught up in a Voltaire tongue bath. I say "slightly lascivious", because he makes comments, but unlike some people who have been groped, fondled and tongued (I saw that one in New Orleans), he has never done that to me. One woman even wrote about how he "grabbed her ass and started humping her". Of course she was delighted by this, because wow, what Voltaire-lover wouldn't be?...but I can count on one hand minus two fingers the number of dudes who are
allowed to just grab me. It is a very short list, and Voltaire is not on it. If he ever did it, much to the dismay of his nearby fans, I would have to choke him out.
Wait a minute! I got off on some Voltaire rant and didn't comment about the COSTUMES. XD
ReplyDeleteI think that you and I should do this costume TOGETHER. I'm excited about the idea! The middle isn't an issue, because A: I'm not even doing it exactly as is anyway. You know I have refused the usual "pasty" projects XD. (I am a poser amongst the burlesque girls, as I'm just in it for the delicious costuming, and don't actually have any intentions of Peeling) There will be some draping changes, though I do love the jewels and will try to keep that in somehow, but my changes won't have the half of my torso exposed, so the middle's not that much on display. And B: It's not until D*C for next year. We both have plenty of time for toning and what not. XD I actually will probably be much smaller in certain areas, because I absolutely have to fit into my three character costumes, and I've never done characters before, so I actually have to make an effort! This is new territory for me! And this latex is not stretching kind. *insert "uh-oh" face here*
Voltaire comment ahead!
ReplyDeleteHis earlier stuff I enjoy, when I'm in that mood, but I can see where his music gets really old, really quickly. :)
And I agree- his hotness derives almost exclusively from his WDM state. And well-kept hair. But he is hardly the first to claim that.
On a related note, I have fallen in with a bunch of rogues who are historic fencers, cooks, singers, pikemen, and general awesome folk. Many of the men in this group of WDMs, to the point of awesome. I'm talking, well-fitting slacks, dress shirts, vests, pocketwatch with fob, coats, etc. on a regular basis. Daily. :D
You shall have to come visit and enjoy.
I, too, am working on slimming for con next year, so I wish you best luck on your efforts. :D
ReplyDeleteOk to non-midriff-showing any costume, really. And right there with ya about burlesque. I tend to think of myself more as a cigarette girl than a burlesque dancer, though I'm neither. But if I could, I'd wear the cute outfits without having to get on stage and peel/shimmy. :)
So, ok, let's get planning! You're wanting me to help you with making the costume for you? Or you want us both wearing the same thing so we can pose with 4 arms showing (one behind the other)?
Ha, ha! I like your "Voltaire Comment" warning! I did go off on him a teeny bit, didn't I? :D He's an ass. I may not have cared so much if he had not mistreated my Danni-Face!
ReplyDeleteAnd OH, YES PLEASE!, in regards to your 'related note'! Please do take me to all these WDMs that you have there in your sector (tribe-speak). So that I may look upon them in admiration...and to also catalog their species/variety, since as we both well know, WDMs are extremely rare in some populations.
And yes, I'm sure I'll have to touch one or two of them, but I've already promised to not get carried away. :D
Yes to wearing whatever you want! No peeling. :)
But! There WILL be shimmying. Lots and lots of shimmying! *chases you with a hip belt*
You know, if we lived closer we could do workshops together. :) Most of the instructors I want to study with regularly are on the West coast. :( Many of them do tour and teach, but don't come this far south. I've been saved by Nashville and Atlanta for the West Coast bellydancers!! :D
Anyhoo, yes, burlesque-era costuming is yums, AND if this new idea can workout itself out for next year at Dragon*Con, people could wear *and* technically peel, if they wanted to, as it will be the perfect event for such a thing, and it will be invite and ladies only. :) I need to get with Karen for local names and support.
You are so on the same page as me with this costume! I think it'd be fun one, and we will match well enough because of the body paint.
Hmm, I was thinking of just getting an airbrush anyway, since there's going to be so much body painting, next year and in the future. Christy and I have one project in mind that is seriously paint heavy, and it will require lots of time and I'd rather not do it by hand. Why are we doing it? Because we're INSANE. :) Yay! If I can find a picture, I will post it. XD
So, if it hasn't been sussed yet, i have an update on the particulars of the mystery art-
